Succession of Interesting Days
 Todays note is written by Uyen, one more of our teachers at Dorothea's Project Legacy. I hope your enjoying meeting our GIBTK team. As always if led email a word of encouragement and I will forward to Uyen.

    Life sometimes faces difficulties, sometimes it is full of happiness and enjoyable moments. But for me, life is a succession of interesting days.

   I was born and grew up in Danang, a beloved and active city which sometimes has plenty of challenges. When I was a child, I harbored the dream of becoming a construction engineer. It seems that the period time of writing university applications is one of the most difficult times in our life.

   Standing in front of the door opening to a new life, having a right decision for a good future is so important to everyone, including me. I wrote and filled in the application for my dream major at Danang University of Science and Technology.

   IT, however, still was left on the table because my family was in a difficult circumstance and I wondered if my family would be able to pay for the high tuition fee each year.
   I was afraid that I could not pursue my dream. So I decided to write another application in order to apply to the Pedagogical (relating to teaching) University which has a tuition-free policy. Seven years have passed. Although being a teacher is not my dream at first, I want to say thanks for my choice then, because it gives me a chance for working as a teacher in Giving It Back To Kids now.

   I not only teach knowledge for poor children in Danang, but also become a friend to share their difficulties in their life. Working here makes me understand the statement: "Teaching is the noblest among all the professions "After two years being a teacher, I have been heard about my student's difficulties in their life through their own stories.

   However, I cannot forget the way Trieu, one of my students, aspired to learn.  I still remembered when I was a new teacher of Giving It Back To Kids, Trieu who was a student in grade 10 and he was a little boy then. But now, he is in his grade 12 and more mature. This year is his last year in high school so he has to focus on studying in order to apply for university. In spite of his difficult family circumstance, Trieu always tries his best to overcome  and keep studying better.

Uyen with Trieu

   One time, he shared his heart to me about his story when he was in secondary school and prepared for his high school entrance exam. His mom wanted him to apply in Thai Phien, a high school in the city of Danang because in Hoa Bac, his hometown, has no high school. His mom said if he did not pass the high school entrance exam, he would skip high school and help her grow vegetable plants or breed cattle. In the time preparing for the exam, his mom took him to school frequently from Hoa Bac in spite of the long distance.

Trieu won 1st prize in school completion in 2017-2018 school year

   Because of thirsting for knowledge and thinking about her love for him, he tried to study hard. After that, he passed the entrance exam and became a student of Thai Phien High School. However, on the day he passed the exam, the happier he was, the burden on his mother's shoulder grew. His father suffered from heart disease and had an open heart surgery, so he is just in charge of some simple work for keeping his health. His respected mother has to take charge of everything and become the bread winner of the family. In addition to as a preschool teacher, she also sells girdle-cake on the beach for earning money to support the family.

   Trieu told me that he had dreamt of becoming a professional programmer. He desired and tried his best to apply in Danang of Science and Technology University.
With the beautiful dream which suits his strength, a keen intelligence, he loves learning about computers, discovering electronic components and researching in small parts of the devices. In addition, He also has a strong passion for bicycles and cars. Trieu also has a little bit talent in painting. He draws pretty well. Whenever the community class holds a drawing contest, he is very excited to participate

   With a studious spirit, the efforts to rise above the challenging circumstances, the desire and the passion for his dreams, I believe that Trieu will fulfill his dream of becoming a professional programmer. The spirit of studiousness and energy of Trieu is so admirable. Hope that his dream will come true soon and wish his life always be good and success.

Sincerly;
Uyen
