Clean water, better health

Clean water, better health
Today’s journal was written by Sean Kappauf - executive director of ATTA. GIBTK has been in partnership with ATTA for years to help people in the remote areas gain access to clean water.

I’ve spent almost a decade on mission to help families gain access to clean and safe drinking water. Years ago, I shared about my journey at the Crossing Church after that service I met with Robert and Tam as Tam had shown interest in the filtration kits we use and thought it could work in Vietnam.

Fast forward to today and our partnership with GIBTK has provided over 4,000 families in Vietnam access to clean and safe drinking water! Simply amazing to see what God can do when we are willing to say yes and step out in faith.

Over the course of our partnership, I would travel to Vietnam twice a year but since 2020 I haven’t been able to go back due to the pandemic, until this past week. Let me tell you, it was soooo good to be back. Vietnam feels like a second home. The staff at GIBTK are like family to me. Words fall short to express all the love I have for them.

When I landed, we were off and running. Helping families in Da Nang and the central Highland to gain access to water. Never gets old seeing the smiles on people’s faces as they receive one of our filters. Simply, to know that they don’t have to suffer from water related illnesses and even more important their children don’t have to suffer is an incredible relief and expresses itself with laughter and joy.

At a distribution in Gia Lai province, a father of two kids, Dinh Van O was happy to hold the filter in his hands. “My kids can finally drink clean water!”, he exclaimed. His family mainly use the water pumped from their well, but the water is little bit milky and smells strangely. Having no money to buy better water, he and his kids have to use that water for their daily activities except for drinking. “I can only pay 5 cents for a water bottle each week so we have to drink water as least as we can.” Surely that this water filter will make a big change in his and his kids’ lives and future.

As I’m writing this I’m filled with joy, this past week was one for the books. Was so good to be able to attend the 20th anniversary of GIBTK and watch the impact that this great organization has had and continues to have in Vietnam. Then to experience the joy of those receiving clean water. And lastly to be with the staff, to laugh, to joke, to share meals together, to be present with one another as we continue to join together to love those around us. What a beautiful experience!

Sincerely,
Sean Kappauf
