Never Give Up

Never Give Up
Today’s journal is a story about Nghia Nguyen who could gain accessed to GIBTK's tuition program 14 years ago. Her life has been completely transformed. Thank you to all donors and friends for helping GIBTK provide kids with life-changing opportunities over the past 20 years.

Nghia grew up with her grandmother because her father has been in hospital due to his mental illness and her mom left her when she was 3 months old. When she was 8 years old, her grandmother went blind in both eyes. All of her activities were done in place, so Nghia had to take care of her grandmother and herself. She did everything from farming, going to the mountain, collecting bottles in the garbage, chopping peppers, peeling lotus seeds, and being a worker in the frozen fish factory. She did all kinds of job to earn money to attend school and take care of her father and grandmother.

(Nghia graduated law university)

The loss of not having her mother or siblings, can never be compensated. It is a scar that never heals. Many nights she would cry quietly because she felt self-pity for her situation, but then she would say to herself: "Although I am unfortunate in life, I am still healthy and have the chance to go to school. I will work hard to overcome all, try my very best at school, to have a job with a stable income to improve my life, take care of my father, my grandmother, and to help other orphans, disabled children, and other unfortunate lives".

(Nghia got married)

She passed into Ho Chi Minh City University of Law in 2008. She remembers holding the university’s notice in her hand with a lot more worriment than joy because of no money to attend and the tears kept pouring down. The day of enrollment was quickly approaching, and she had just $11. She thought her dream would never come true, but opportunity came to her in her most desperate time. She was introduced to GIBTK. GIBTK funded her four-year’s tuition and some living cost.

(Nghia working at a law office in Da Nang)

GIBTK changed her life completely. She graduated in 2012 with a law degree. It has been 10 years since her graduation. She has a good husband, and their daughter is 4 years old. They own a house in Da Nang city. She is working at the Law office in Da Nang. Her desire is to do something to give back to the community. She wants to inspire unfortunate children by the message “Turn your pain into actions and never give up”.
