My Life Transformed

My Life Transformed
Today's note is about Leap Heng's story.

I am Chhoun Leap Heng, 21 years old. I have lived at GIBTK’s homes in Cambodia for 10 years. My sister and I lived with my uncle since we were so young, so I called my uncle as daddy and my aunty as mommy. I didn’t know who my real parents were, but I wanted to find out. When I got a bit older, I knew who my biological parents were, but they got divorced and started their own families. I felt abandoned when knowing this truth.

When I was 8 years old, my sister had to move in with my biological dad and his own family. I had to move in with my biological mom and her own family. Although I had to change school several times, I felt so happy to be with my mom. But it didn’t last long. I had work to earn money for the family. I left home in the morning and came back in the evening to sell the vegetable? near the market every day.

A lady seeing me selling vegetable wanted to hire me. She asked me to work for her family to get paid. I was so excited because I felt that I could help my mom. I told my mom about this, and she let me work for that lady’s family. I had no idea what’s going on. After living with this family for a month, I started comparing their family circumstance and mine. I started crying and beating myself up. I wanted to go to school again so bad. I wished my parents had not got divorced. That desire had been in my heart since that day. I kept thinking about it every day and every night.

I constantly prayed for an opportunity to continue studying and being with my mom. God heard my prayer. My mom brought me home. And then I was offered an opportunity to live at GIBTK’s homes in Battambang. I was so happy but did not want to stay away from my mom. I was worried that I would not be there when she needed help. But she touched my head and said “Darling, continue to study”.

So I moved in Marlene’s home on Jul 3rd, 2013 when I was 11. I felt so warm when I first arrived. The girls in the home were so friendly to me. I started my classes at a primary school and at an English center two months later. I am now in year 3 at university.

I am so grateful to GIBTK for giving this opportunity to pursue my dream. I have been provided food, new clothes, and other things. I have changed so much. I can speak, read, and write in English now. Thank you to GIBTK for making me who I am today and has given me a special chance to transform my life. And thank you for giving me an opportunity to think differently.

"We highly appreciate you and thank you for transforming lives"

Sincerely,

Robert Kalatschan
