Phan Van Khanh Thinh was admitted to stay at Hai Chau Home following the death of his mother in 2006. Prior to this, Thinh and his older brother primarily lived with their grandmother, who struggled with health and poverty, while their father was incarcerated.
Before entering the Hai Chau Home, Thinh didn’t feel much love from his family. Despite Thinh being a good kid with a strong working ethic, he often felt unhappy, and struggled with self-worth.
After ten years living at Hai Chau Home, Thinh has lived happily with many peers. Thinh recently moved to Hal’s Home – a GIBTK home for young men – to complete his college education.
Thinh is grateful to GIBTK for helping him transform his tragedy into a happy situation. Thanks to GIBTK’s gift of education, medical care, nutrition, and love, Thing finished studying Tourism at Danang Vocational Tourism College, and is now an official employee in Ba Na Hill as a game manager.
Thinh said the most significant gift he received from GIBTK was useful lessons about leadership skills and emotional health. In the past, Thinh said he was a shy person, but over the past thirteen years he has become more confident. Through work everyday, he often contacts a variety of customers, utilizing communication skills he learned from GIBTK. Thinh is now more open with others, more confidently gives public presentations, and overcomes challenges.
“After a period of living and studying, I have matured and now bear significant responsibilities,” Thinh said. “I intend to pursue my profession on my own. There are no words to describe how happy I was to be able to be a member of Hal’s Home for college men and to continue my education. It goes without saying that living at GIBTK's homes has brought me a great deal of success. My hope is that the organization continues to grow so it can continue to transform the lives of others who are in difficult and disadvantaged situations. I also commit to do my best to be a helpful member of society and to get a steady career after leaving Hal's Home and I will not let anyone down since they have put their faith in me.”
