When the opportunity to volunteer through Giving It Back To Kids presented itself, I jumped on board with my two daughters. At 17 and 13, I wanted them (and us) to experience culture beyond California.
Everything we have seen and participated in through GIBTK's volunteer program in Vietnam is life changing. I cannot exaggerate GIBTK's impact on the lives of underprivileged youths in Vietnam.
My daughters and I planned art projects like clay building and canvas painting with youths at Carmela's and Mary's Homes. We practiced speaking English with students, participated in distributing water filtration systems and wheelchairs. What we experienced was truly heartfelt. The children exuded joy. The teachers were enthusiastic. The communities were kind. Overall, we saw firsthand the immense needs of Vietnamese communities being met through GIBTK's many philanthropic programs.
Having been born in Vietnam but growing up in the US, I have dreamed of volunteering in Vietnam for years. It was GIBTK that helped make this a reality. My daughters and I are forever changed in the way we view service to others and I hope to expand and repeat.
