Love, Healing, and Education

Love, Healing, and Education

Today, we share a journal from one of our dedicated teachers, Ngan

We often hear: 'Those who are hurt want to heal the wounds of others.' Mentioning the phrase 'healing' may trigger allergies in many. It has been mentioned frequently lately, and among them are mocking questions like: 'What deep wounds need healing?' But you don't know that trauma is a part of life, something you cannot avoid. Many adults live with pain and suffering from trauma without even realizing it, and that pain can last a lifetime...

Ngan - a very passionate teacher responsible for the life skills and emotional health program

And I think I've also been in that state until starting to work at GIBTK as a 'semi-skilled teacher,' sharing lessons on mental health care and life skills for children.

?Over the past three years in this role, it has also been a way for me to learn to heal myself and accompany children who have wounds similar to mine at their age...

Ngan always dedicates herself to raising children's awareness

In October 2020, I started with classes, meeting the first students to create the most enjoyable and beneficial classes for disadvantaged students here... I still remember sharing from a 6th-grade student at that time, after a week in the class: 'I feel so happy studying here. I am listened to, understood, recognized, and helped by the teachers a lot, which I didn't feel much in my previous school or even in my family.' This small sharing is perhaps a great motivation for me and my colleagues to continue our work in our nearly four-year teaching journey here.

Ngan's and our joy is seeing children's happy smiles.

Besides being a teacher, I also have the opportunity to become a friend, a sister who listens to students' stories about their families, love, and studies involuntarily. Yet, I find joy and happiness in this, as it not only supports the students but also helps me feel healed through their stories.

Ngan shares life skills knowledge with students

I didn't think I could 'heal' or develop skills for the students immediately, but I believe what I share can create small positive changes in their emotions, thoughts, actions, and above all, bring happiness, closeness, and laughter in every lesson for my students.

Beyond basic subjects, Ngan's life skills class is very special.

The hardest joys to find are the sweetest. Thank you, Giving, for giving me the opportunity to contribute so much, to help others not only students but also to accompany many other humanitarian programs, and especially to be loved by students ... Thank you for the lessons, experiences, and even the challenging moments during my time at Giving, which have created a tremendous impact and helped me become a better person every day.

'You may not be the best person, but your behavior and actions will determine who you are in the eyes of others. With belief, you can see invisible things.' I believe that I have made some differences in the lives of the children, the people I have met and shared with. I believe that helping others is also helping oneself, and love given is love that can last forever."
