As this email reaches your inboxes my daughter Kristina will be on a plane headed to Vietnam! This is going to be a long trip and I am anxiously awaiting to see what God has planned.
Todays journal is written by To. He is one of our full time teachers. Some time ago Jen Flynn asked me "why does GIBTK pay for tutors. Wouldn't it make more sense to hire full time teachers?" Me with my keen mind said huh... Great idea! To is one of the teachers who joined our team. Since coming on board the grades of our kids has improved. Not just a little but almost across the board they came up 2 levels!!!
Please meet To!

"At first, I want to say that it is very lucky for me to be a member of Giving It Back to Kids. The organization brings me a chance to be myself and to assist other children who are in a difficult condition like I was when I was a little child. I was born in poverty, so since I was in Primary School, I have dreamed of giving a hand to help others lead a better life. Now I can whole-heartedly do what I want. I work as a teacher who extends new knowledge to students day by day and supports them to make considerable progress in their studies so that they can find good jobs and then continue to assist others.
Playing with kids and having a real talk with them offers me an opportunity to get a better insight into their family background as well as their will and determination of improving their studies, which are also my motivation to work.
I am extremely pleased to be a person in whom they confide everything related to their learning and family.
I still remember when I first came here in August 2013. It was the beginning time of a new school year. Although I had done much preparation in advance, it was very difficult for me to perform well at work. However, thanks to my great efforts and the children's enthusiasm in learning, I have more motivation.
This urges me to fulfill my goals and to complete my tasks successfully. Looking at the kids' smiles and happiness when they achieve high scores after their great effort makes me love my job more. In addition, that is also my real happiness at work. After two years of working with kids, I found my life much more meaningful and interesting. I can see how much they have endeavored to improve their learning results as well as change their opportunities in life in the future.
In addition, teaching poor students in GIBTK's community class is also my overwhelming joy in work. They remind me of my own circumstances. Although the children's difficult situations are not the same, they all try their best to make dramatic progress in study. By talking with them, I can feel their hard efforts. The first year of the community class aimed to review lessons for children so that they could take university entrance exams. Seeing their cheerfulness when they passed the exam and were able to enroll in their dream schools brought me the feeling of great pleasure. The numbers of students in this school year increased considerably and the results turn out to be more and more positive. The most important thing is I have learned how meaningful my job is.
Additionally, I have a chance to learn about several useful lessons involved in emotional health and leadership skills, which serve me well in my job. Thanks to this, I better understand surrounding people as well as kids, behave kindly and solve unexpected problems healthily so that I can fulfill myself and work efficiently. Last but not least, all GIBTK's members care for and encourage me a great deal, which is true joy for me to make more endeavor both in my job and in life"
As always, I will forward your words of encouragement to To and the team. They are always surprised and encouraged to hear from our friends.
