Relationships, I keep writing about them but I am always caught off guard when I see how they develop. The Pfleger family has made several trips to Vietnam over the past years. They first met the Chin family in 2010. And built a home for them and took care of some medical needs. Took care of the need they saw.

Chin and Pfleger families in 2010 |
In 2012 they made it clear they wanted to revisit the Chin family and we did. A few gifts were brought for the family and a toy for their daughter. But relationship began. It was not just a 1-time visit.
This trip it was at the top of their list. Now they call them family. But it is not just words. They have been in touch. The Chin family's daughter marked days off their calendar waiting for Ali and the family to visit. And much to my surprise... well maybe not. There was no need that was brought to us. We suggested several but the Chins kept saying we are fine! The Chins were just happy to see them and for nothing but a visit from their extended family, the Pfleger's.
Go figure, is this what friendship is really about? I am so proud to see that the things my wife and I dreamed about, and so many said it will never work. Really is happening! YEAH GOD!!!

Ta connection from the beginning, 2010 |
"Visiting the Chin family! We met the Chin family back in 2010 on a visit to the countryside to interview families pre-screened by the people's committee deserving of a new home! The father had been in a serious motorcycle accident and was no longer able to provide for his family. The mom had chronic ear problems and they had one little girl who was 3 years old! Long story short our family was able to build a home for this deserving family through GIBTK!

"Sisters" from different nations |
Initially it was about the gift of a home and the security it brought to this young family! Over the years since then it has become so much more! We are family! It's about spending time together and watching our children grow! Our family photo is displayed proudly beside theirs! They are healthy today and have been blessed with a son, now 2!
We also met a new family today that we will have the honor of building a home for! A family of 5, with three young children! The father has a heart condition that inhibits him from working and providing for his family! Through GIBTK and there relationship with Danang Hospital we are able to offer to have him evaluated for heart surgery!

our new friends, a new family addition ? if Ali has any say... |
Although we have seen the living conditions in this area over the years, it never ceases to humble us! The walls are pieces of scrap wood, plastic and metal, the floor is dirt, a tiny fire with a grate and pot to cook on, the whole family sleeping together on a mat laid upon a piece of plywood, a hole in the ground to potty in!
Yes we will build them a home and yes we will continue to build a relationship with this family with the help of Robert and GIBTK!
We will do this in honor of you, my sweet friend Dorothea!"

Any ladies out there need any new ideas for your kitchen remodel?

Here s a note from my long time friend Tom;
"I had the opportunity to visit the young men at Hal's home today and share my experience, strength and hope with 12 young men with bright futures thanks to GIBTK. It was a joy to see open minds eager for some of the keys and lessons that I have learned in my life."
"Hals home has given them the opportunity to study architecture, interior design, tourism, and teaching. They have been able to realize their dreams. As Robert would say, "way cool"!"
