Note from one of our graduates and now GIBTK team member

Today's note is from Thanh. He was part of The Dick and Ann Moore Tuition program and stayed at Hal's Home. Graduated from University and now is part of the GIBTK team! But let me let him share his story himself! So proud of this young man!

   "Someone who gives will have everything"
   It is my favorite saying. I have lived in a disadvantaged condition since I was born. Specifically, my father suffered from a chronic disease and passed way when he was at the age of 50. My mother was a woman with an intellectual disability. Therefore, my sister and I were dependent on my grandmother, but we soon moved to Dai Loc Orphanage Center as she was not young any more.
    I received great love and care from volunteers, non-governmental organizations, along with other benefactors. They gave everything they had including their youth and love. What did they receive? Some might say nothing, but indeed it is everything. Everyone respects and admires them. When it comes to me, I also have a sincere desire to make some contribution to those with an unstable life.
    When I graduated from high school I had to leave the orphanage. Thanks to the great help from GIBTK and its donors, I had a chance to live at a safe place called Hal's home. This home is for male students wanting to complete their education. After graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Economics, I spent a long time doing various kinds of jobs nationwide from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to this, I came to the realization that there are other people leading more difficult lives than me. I wondered who will assist them if everyone just lives for themselves. Who? No one or I? Life becomes different when we make a change. And I did.
    I feel so lucky to become a staff member of GIBTK as a teacher for children in the community. Teaching community children helps me find out the meaning of my life. Although it is a little bit hard, this job makes my dream come true, which is changing the world for the better. I do this by changing myself from a selfish person to one prioritizing how to benefit others.
    Step by step, I have made several positive changes to the surrounding environment and I believe this will be broadened in the near future. I have love for my job. Why? Because it makes each day in my life become more meaningful through learning valuable lessons from my students along with the organization. It has been two months since my pupils and I tried to obtain new knowledge. I am very glad to see my beloved students making considerable progress day by day. Some used to know a little, but recently they have acquired needed knowledge and done difficult exercises themselves. They also confide in me about their family and friends.
   Each child has their own situation, but they are all the same in having a strong desire to step forward and fulfill their dreams. Our relationship is built up gradually. Currently, it seems as though I am their second parent and sibling. I will make great endeavors and work devotedly to help my children reach their dreams.

    If there is anyone who has already been a volunteer, you will get the same feeling as me, which is extremely happy and delighted. It does help me realize my true values, as well as answer the question: Why was I born? I work to assist other children who are in the same circumstances so that they can take back their childhood. There is no difference from the meaning of "Giving It Back to Kids"- the organization where I have been working.
    I would like to extend my deep acknowledgement to the great father Robert and mother Dorothea for offering me a precious opportunity to achieve my burning dream that I have cherished for so long. I will be devoted to this work in hope of building a better life. I love my job a great deal. I would like to say that when you give something, you will receive another thing at the same time.

Sincerly;
Thanh
