Todays note is from another of our newest team members. Please enjoy meeting Baoy or as the team calls her "Y" (this time it was not me who gave her the nickname)
Here's "Y"
The time you make others happy is the time of happiness.
It's about three months since I started working at GIBTK. I still remember clearly how friendly everybody here was when they gave me a warm welcome as a new staff. It was a short moment, but this first impression made me feel like I was already a member of this family.
Being through the process with many heart patients with their operation, I have to say that I like this job more than I can imagine. The day I received their supported application until the day they were discharged, I witnessed many experiences of emotions: From fear to relief, then happiness and gratefulness. When I listened to the kids and their family, I learned all that they were suffering. People who I helped are very poor. They had to struggle with not only their daily expense but also the treatment cost, which is often far beyond their affordability. Some parents had to be worried about their children everyday as an unexpected hospitalization came so often.
The time when they learned that GIBTK was going to help them, they were relived and hope is nourished in their mind. Their anxiety disappeared when their doctor notified them of the success of their child's surgery. I wish you could see the mother's eyes when they follow their kids to be healthier step by step, day by day. And when the family gave me the letter of thanks with high appreciation, I also really wanted to thank them for granting me a chance to admire the beauty of this life, which is called love. I think we, together with the parents and their kids, open the door to a bright future with happiness and no pain. At that time, our mission: "Transforming lives through education, medical care, nutrition and love" is woven in my soul.

A personal joy seeing the happiness of a mother knowing her child has a chance at a full life |
I went to the Children's Homes of our organization, which are filled with joy, sympathy and love. The children come from many different places with different backgrounds, but they treat each other like their own siblings. They share and help each other with everything, such as study at school, problems in their lives, or even one candy or snack. Housemothers love the kids like their own children and take care of everything for them from food, clothing, sleeping or driving them to school. No one deviates from the direction: "Transforming lives through education, medical care, nutrition and love". I once asked one mother of Carmela's home if she was tired as there is a lot of things she has to do every day. She responded, "Seeing my children growing up is my happiness. I just want them to love each other, to be obedient and become a good person."

At GIBTK I can help not only heart patients be healthier, but also help myself develop more skills and experiences because I can learn new things from others everyday. When I start to do something, I always get the consensus and clear direction of staff. Even when I made a mistake, I felt everyone was by my side, encouraged and helped me go through my fear to solve the problem.
I have a daily meeting and team meeting every week where teammates can share their problems and new knowledge. I have an office meeting every month where all staff in GIBTK together review what they learned and implemented in a month and also Tam, who is GIBTK SE Asia director, will teach us a new lesson that is very valuable for our job and our lives.

"Y" aka Baoy wit her team leader Nhung (Aka Lily ) |
I really admire my leaders. They always care about me, help me, observe me carefully to give me precious advice. I can recall clearly the moment I was evaluated after two months of working at GIBTK. Even though I was criticized due to my mistakes, I was also was encouraged a lot. The devoted eyes of Tam and the warm hug of Nhung inspired me deeply. At that time, I knew I had to try really hard in working so that I can help more children and prove that what everybody taught me is worthwhile.
Love you all, GIBTK team!
Sincerly;
Baoy
